Entertainment without E-screens

About

Who we are and why we are here.

Encouraging and sharing a love of entertainment without screens.

We are a family that loves to play games and read Sci-fi and Fantasy Books. We started Dandar’s not because we dislike modern technology, but because we believe that there is much to be gained from turning it off occasionally. We want to share our passions with the community.

Having a physical book in your hand is a different experience that removes you from the distractions of modern life, allowing you to be fully engulfed in the story you are reading. You may be traveling through a distant galaxy in the Expanse or visiting with elves in an enchanted forest in the Lord of the Rings. Whatever you are doing, it is just easier to be sucked in when there are no notifications or pop ups on your page.

Boardgames and other tabletop games encourage a quality of interaction with people that you just don’t get playing video games. If you play a two player strategy game like Chess, Hive, or Rommel in the Desert, it is just you and your opponent trying to out think each other. If you play a large multi player game like A Game of Thrones or Eclipse, you will forge and break alliances to achieve your goals. In cooperative games like Pandemic, Flash Point, or Spirit Island, you must all work together to find the strategies that work to your strengths.

Role playing games mix all of that together. You can explore fantasy worlds in Dungeons and Dragons, experience gothic horror in Call of Cthulhu, or live in the dark, gritty future of Cyberpunk. All of this while working with (or maybe secretly against) your fellow players.
